The symphony is guided by NSO violinist, Barbara Wilcox, who brings her passion for teaching and musical talent. With a fee of $40 per semester, this program offers an unparalleled musical experience on the Oregon coast! Each participant receives a free ticket to each NSO concert.

Music Education Outreach

Musician Visits to Local Schools
Having professional musicians visit music students in their classrooms is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain real world insights, inspiration and guidance on their personal music journey. NSO Music Director Adam Flatt, select NSO musicians, and many of the symphony’s guest soloists generously donate their time visiting Lincoln County schools when they are in Newport for concerts.  If you would like your class/school to be considered for such visits, please contact the NSO office.

Free Concerts
The NSO is committed to making live orchestral music experiences accessible to wide audiences by offering multiple free, family-friendly performance each year. Each spring, the Salem Youth Symphony visits the coast to perform for Lincoln County 3rd graders at the Performing Arts Center in an incredibly impactful show that has many young people inspired to begin their music journey! In May and December join us at Newport High School for an exhilarating performance by all the NSO's Youth Program participants and then come back in July to celebrate the 4th with a fun and energetic concert.

These popular events are made possible by the generous support of Oregon Coast Bank, and other local business sponsors. Look for announcements of these and other free events on this website, by signing up for the newsletter or contacting the NSO office for more information.
