Surf, Sand, and Symphony
Majestic beauty describes the Oregon Coast and there is majesty, beauty, passion, and even a little sorcery in the Newport Symphony Orchestra’s 2010-2011season. It all begins in the fall, when the orchestra joins forces with the lofty voices of three regional choruses and special vocal artists to present Beethoven’s magnificent Ninth Symphony. Majestic themes continue throughout the season as the ensemble presents works of Wagner, Brahms, Liszt, Copeland, Tchaikovsky, and more. We will welcome some exciting guests this season, including Portland’s Florestan Trio, whose national and international performances have been described as “positively overflowing with life and energy.” Teenage violinist phenom Brandon Garbot and Vincent Schmithorst, Grand Prizewinner of the Fifth Boston International Piano Competition, will also grace the stage.
