In addition to presenting high quality classical music concerts, the NSO is committed to serving the Lincoln County community with a variety of education programs.
These programs include:
- Musician Visits to Local Schools NSO Music Director Adam Flatt, select NSO musicians, and many of the symphony’s guest soloists visit Lincoln County classrooms each time they are in Newport. If you would like your class/school to be considered for such visits, please contact Tom Hurst, NSO Education Committee Chair.
- Free Concerts The NSO presents an annual free, family-friendly performance on the 4th of July at Newport High School. This popular event is made possible by the generous support of Mo’s Restaurants, Oregon Coast Bank, and other local business sponsors. The NSO also sponsors occasional free outdoor performances by small ensembles at Literacy Park in Newport in association with Newport Public Library.
- Youth Orchestra The Newport Symphony collaborates with the Oregon Pro Arte Youth Orchestra for a spring youth orchestra program. This program offers local students an opportunity to experience playing in a full ensemble. For pictures of previous years’ programs and information on the 2010 program, click here.
- Symphony for Seniors The NSO partners with the Newport Senior Center to provide outreach lectures and reduced price tickets and transportation to select concerts. The next scheduled partnership concert is January 31, 2010.
- Find a Private Teacher The NSO maintains an on-line directory of music instructors.
